Enabling Fast and Accurate Covid-19 Testing Through a Digital Laboratory Platform: A Xapiens Use Case 

One of Xapiens’ clients, a leading high-throughput Covid-19 and DNA laboratories, established during the peak of the pandemic to support national testing capacity. With modern equipment and international standard procedures, the laboratory can process up to 5,000 PCR tests per day. Their service is designed to be fast, reliable, and professionally managed, serving a wide range of test needs for retail customers, corporate clients, and hospitals.  

 

To support the government and public demand for quick and accurate PCR results, the laboratory needed a system that could handle certain issues: 

  • A high volume of daily registrations 
  • Various user segments (individual users, companies, and hospital partners) 
  • Administrative processes such as booking, payment, and test result distribution 
  • Fast coordination between teams inside the laboratory 

 

Before the system was built, much of the process relied on manual handling, which has slowed operations, increased human error, and created unnecessary queues. Our client required a centralized digital platform to simplify registration, management of samples, and communication with users. 

 

They expected us to provide a responsive, reliable, and easy-to-use web-based platform that supports: 

  1. User Registration that allows individuals or groups to register online. 
  2. Monitoring Process Flow, enabling laboratory staff to track samples and testing. 
  3. Test Result Delivery that securely sending results to users directly, once completed. 
  4. Scalable System tht capable of handling thousands of daily transactions 
  5. Accessible from Any Device and mobile-friendly for both users and lab staff 

 

Xapiens developed a web-based digital laboratory platform, consisting of two responsive websites.  

1.Public Website (Patient Portal) 

For individuals, corporate clients, and hospital partners: 

  • Online registration and profile creation 
  • Test scheduling and time-slot booking 
  • Digital payment or corporate billing 
  • Downloadable test results 
  • Easy access from mobile, tablet, or desktop 
2.Laboratory Operational Website (Internal Portal) 

For the lab’s operational team: 

  • Monitoring of incoming registrations 
  • Tracking the status of each test (sample received, in process, completed) 
  • Managing queue and workflow inside the lab 
  • Uploading and validating test results 
  • Communication dashboard for staff 
  • Full audit trail for data accuracy 

 

To ensure the platform could meet urgent pandemic timelines, Xapiens adopted the Agile Scrum methodology. This allowed rapid development, weekly improvements, and continuous feedback between Us and the client. This approach enabled us to deliver a system that matched real operational demands and could evolve quickly as the situation changed. 

 

The digital platform transformed how the laboratory operated:

By enabling accurate and high-speed testing, the system supported public health initiatives, corporate strategies, and hospital operations.
